In short, a BCBA resume is a one to two page document that names your Behavior Analyst Certification Board credential, the pathway and supervised fieldwork that earned it, and the two loads you carry today: the learners on your caseload and the staff who answer to you.
Almost every applicant, however, writes the first half of that. Very few write the second. A clinical director reading your file is staffing a schedule and a budget at once, and the question underneath both is not whether you can design a behavior plan. It is how many technicians you can hold, how many authorized hours you can keep funded, and whether your reports come back approved.
Specifically, this page serves the certificant side of the work: certifying, supervising, assessing and defending hours to a payer. If you deliver the sessions rather than authorize them, the behavioral therapist resume is the page you want.
Resume guide for a BCBA resume
To that end, this guide and the corresponding BCBA resume example will cover:
- To begin with, how to write a BCBA resume, block by block
- Then, the certification block: pathway, fieldwork hours, examination and license
- Also, three adaptable summaries: newly certified, practicing and clinical director
- In addition, how to state a supervision load and a caseload in numbers a director can staff against
- Finally, what the federal wage data publishes for this work, and what it does not
How to write a BCBA resume
Overall, six blocks: contact header, summary, certification and licensure, clinical and supervisory experience, skills, education. Generally, one page for your first two years after the examination, two once you supervise other analysts.
Certification comes before experience because it is a gate. An expired credential, or one a credentialing clerk cannot verify in the BACB registry in under a minute, stalls the file before anyone reads an outcome.
BlockWhat it is answeringWhere it goes
- Certification and licensureIs this person currently certified, and licensed where we bill?Directly under the summary
- Supervision loadHow many technicians can they hold without the schedule breaking? Its own block, not a bullet
- Caseload and authorizationsDo their hours come back approved, and do they defend them?Inside experience, with numbers
- Assessment repertoireWhich instruments can they administer without training time?Grouped in skills
Write your supervision load as three numbers, not one word
"Provided supervision to RBTs" tells a clinical director nothing they can staff against. Three numbers do.
Give the headcount split by credential, the monthly supervision hours those people generate, and the delivery mix. "Supervise 11 RBTs and 2 BCaBAs across two clinic sites, roughly 46 supervision hours a month, about 70 percent in session and 30 percent in group and individual review."
The middle number is the one that gets read twice, because it is the number that decides whether you have room for one more technician. The Behavior Analyst Certification Board requires an RBT to receive supervision for a minimum of 5 percent of the hours they spend delivering behavior-analytic services each calendar month (BACB, RBT Handbook, updated 29 June 2026), so a director can convert your headcount into calendar time in one step. Doing that arithmetic for them is the point.
Run the finished file through the free ATS resume checker first. Multi-site providers and school districts parse applications into a system before a clinical lead opens one.
Choosing the best resume format for a BCBA resume
Reverse chronological, single column. One page while your history is a graduate program, fieldwork and a first certified role. That is, two once you have supervised other analysts, carried a site, or written plans against more than one payer's criteria.
However, a functional format fails here for a specific reason. Supervision is a dated, auditable relationship: who supervised you, when, for how many hours, and who you have supervised since. After all, a format that removes dates removes the structure the credential rests on.
Include your contact information
Also put the certification number on the page. Every credentialing department verifies it against the BACB registry anyway, and the file that lets them do it in ten seconds reaches the clinical reviewer a day earlier.
Name the state license separately. Moreover, certification and license are two different things: the BACB's U.S. Licensure of Behavior Analysts resource describes the profession as licensed in over 33 states of the United States (BACB, page last modified 11 June 2026), and Michigan's Bureau of Professional Licensing requires verification of current BACB certification in good standing in the behavior analyst license file (Michigan LARA, Behavior Analyst Licensing Guide).
Make use of a summary
In effect, four lines: credential and years certified, caseload, supervision load, and one outcome with a number and a period attached.

Right vs wrong: the same BCBA summary, twice
Thus, a director can slot the left column into a staffing model before lunch. In contrast, the right column needs an interview to find out what it means.
Outline your clinical experience
Employer, setting, city, dates, then the two scale numbers at the top of the entry: caseload and supervisees. Then three to five bullets, each with a number and a period.

Adaptable resume employment history example
Senior BCBA and Clinical Supervisor, Grand Trunk Autism Center, Southfield, MI, March 2021 to January 2025
Caseload of 14 learners aged 3 to 14 across center-based, in-home and school consultation. Supervised 11 registered behavior technicians and 2 BCaBAs, roughly 46 supervision hours a month.
Completed 22 VB-MAPP and 9 Vineland-3 assessments a year, each written up as an initial or six-month treatment plan with graphed baseline and target criteria.
Owned reauthorization for about 380 approved service hours a week across four commercial payers and the state Medicaid behavioral benefit; 2 partial denials overturned on appeal in 18 months.
Rebuilt RBT onboarding into a 5-session competency sequence tied to the BACB task list; time from hire to independent session fell from 6 weeks to 3 across 14 hires.
Chaired the clinic's restrictive procedure review, taking the number of active plans containing a restrictive component from 9 to 3 over two years.
Equally, note what is not in that block. For example, the block names, describes or identifies no child, and tells no single case as a story. Instead, caseloads and totals carry the same evidence, safely.
Your BACB pathway, your fieldwork hours and the supervision load you carry
This is the block that separates two otherwise identical BCBA files, and the one most candidates compress into a single line.
Therefore, write it as four parts: how you certified, what you supervise now, what you assess, and what the payer authorizes.
How you certified. The BACB publishes distinct routes to the credential and they are not interchangeable on a resume. Pathway 1 is a master's degree or higher from an accredited or recognized behavior analysis program. Pathway 2 is a master's or higher in any field plus 315 hours of behavior-analytic coursework completed within the previous 10 years. Alternatively, Pathway 3 is three years of full-time faculty work including teaching and published research. Finally, Pathway 4 requires a doctorate that you received at least 10 years earlier plus 10 years of full-time cumulative practice (BACB, BCBA Handbook, updated 29 June 2026). Naming yours answers the question every clinical director silently asks: where your behavior analytic coursework came from.
What the fieldwork was. On pathways 1 to 3 the BACB requires either 2,000 hours of standard supervised fieldwork or 1,500 hours of concentrated supervised fieldwork; pathway 4 requires 500 hours, standard only. All pathways end in the BCBA certification examination, delivered through Pearson VUE (BACB, BCBA Handbook, updated 29 June 2026). Write the hour count, the variant, and the settings it covered; the settings are what a reader uses to guess how long your onboarding takes.
BCBA supervision load and authorizations
What you supervise now. Split the headcount by credential, give the monthly supervision hours, and say how it is delivered. Then add what almost nobody adds: what happened to the people. Retention, promotion to BCaBA, competency pass rates on first attempt. Supervision is the only part of this job whose quality shows up in somebody else's employment record.
What you assess and what gets authorized. Name the instruments and the annual volume, then the funding line: hours requested against hours approved, reassessment cadence, concurrent review, and what you do when a plan comes back short. A BCBA who can say payers authorized 13 of 14 initial plans at the requested level is describing revenue, not paperwork.
Adaptable resume certification and supervision block example
Certification: Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Behavior Analyst Certification Board, #1-19-45521, certified 2019, active. Certified under Pathway 1 with 2,000 hours of standard supervised fieldwork, completed 2017 to 2019 across in-home early intervention and a center-based program.
License: Michigan Licensed Behavior Analyst, Bureau of Professional Licensing, #LBA-6301-0448, active.
Supervision: 11 RBTs and 2 BCaBAs across two sites, roughly 46 supervision hours a month, 70 percent in session and 30 percent in individual and group review. 9 of 14 RBTs hired under this structure are still in post at 24 months; 2 progressed to BCaBA.
Assessment: VB-MAPP, ABLLS-R, Vineland-3, AFLS, functional analysis and descriptive functional behavior assessment. About 31 assessments a year.
Authorization: Reauthorization owner for roughly 380 approved service hours a week across four commercial payers and the state Medicaid behavioral benefit. 2 partial denials overturned on appeal in 18 months.
With five blocks, then, a director can price you, staff you and credential you without a phone call.
One forward-looking line belongs here if it applies to you. Meanwhile, the BACB has announced changes to BCBA requirements taking effect in 2027 (BACB, BCBA Handbook, updated 29 June 2026). If you are still accruing fieldwork, say which requirement set you are certifying under and on what timeline.
Build a snapshot of your key skills
For skills, similarly, twelve to sixteen entries in four groups. Keep supervision and assessment separate, because employers hire for them separately.
Adaptable resume skills example
Assessment: VB-MAPP, ABLLS-R, AFLS, Vineland-3, Functional analysis, Descriptive functional behavior assessment, Preference assessment
Programming: Skill acquisition program design, Function-based behavior intervention plans, Naturalistic developmental behavioral intervention, Verbal behavior, Discrete trial instruction, Toilet training and feeding protocols
Supervision and training: RBT competency assessment, BCaBA and trainee fieldwork supervision, Behavioral skills training, Performance feedback systems, Restrictive procedure review
Funding and systems: Treatment plan writing to medical necessity criteria, Initial authorization and reauthorization, Concurrent review and appeals, CentralReach, Catalyst, Graphing and visual analysis
List your education and certifications
Certification first with number and status, then state license, then degrees with the coursework that qualified you, then continuing education.
Adaptable resume education and certification example
Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Behavior Analyst Certification Board, #1-19-45521, certified 2019, active. Pathway 1, 2,000 hours standard supervised fieldwork.
Michigan Licensed Behavior Analyst, Bureau of Professional Licensing, #LBA-6301-0448, active.
Master of Arts, Applied Behavior Analysis, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI, 2019. Behavior analytic course sequence completed in program.
Bachelor of Arts, Psychology, Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, 2015.
Continuing education: 8-hour supervision training completed 2019 and refreshed 2023. Ethics continuing education current through the 2026 to 2027 certification cycle.
Choose the right layout and design
Above all, single column, 11 or 12 point, no photograph, no skills bars. That is because credentialing teams parse this into a structured provider record, and columns, text boxes and graphics are where that parse fails.
Do
- Put the BACB number and status in the header or first block.
- Name the pathway you certified under and the fieldwork variant and hour count behind it.
- Split supervisees by credential and give the monthly supervision hours.
- State caseload as a number with an age range and a setting mix.
- Give authorization figures: hours requested, hours approved, appeals.
- Say what happened to the people you supervised.
Don’t
- Do not write "certified in ABA" when the credential has a number and a registry.
- Do not claim supervision hours you delivered as a trainee under someone else's authority.
- Do not list an assessment you have only observed.
- Do not describe a single learner in enough detail to identify them, even without a name.
- Do not pad a first certified year to two pages.
BCBA job market and outlook
The U.S. However, the Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes no Occupational Outlook Handbook profile for board certified behavior analysts. There is no federal median wage, employment count or projection for the credential, so this page quotes none and uses the published occupations that bracket the work instead.
| Bracketing occupation, BLS published | Median annual wage, May 2025 | Why it brackets BCBA work |
|---|---|---|
| Substance abuse, behavioral disorder and mental health counselors | Master's-level behavioral practice, licensed, caseload carrying | |
| Psychologists, school | Assessment and consultation inside school teams and education plans | |
| Psychologists, clinical and counseling | Assessment authority, treatment planning and clinical supervision of other staff |
Of the two, the counselor occupation is the nearer in daily shape, and also the larger and faster growing:
| Measure | Substance abuse, behavioral disorder and mental health counselors | Psychologists |
|---|---|---|
| Jobs, 2025 | 533,400 | 209,400 |
| Projected change, 2025-35 | 18% (much faster than average) | 6% (faster than average) |
| Projected annual openings | About 50,500 | About 11,300 |
| Median annual wage, May 2025 | $59,350 | $99,110 |
Two published occupations, one very uneven demand picture
The counselor occupation that most resembles caseload behavioral work is projected to grow 18 percent between 2025 and 2035, much faster than the average for all occupations, with about 50,500 openings a year (BLS, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2025-35 projections). Psychologists, the occupation that most resembles the supervisory and assessment half of a BCBA's week, are projected to grow 6 percent over the same period with about 11,300 openings a year (BLS, same cycle).
Regulation is moving the same way. The BACB's U.S. Licensure of Behavior Analysts resource describes behavior analysis as licensed in over 33 states of the United States (BACB, page last modified 11 June 2026), which is why a resume naming the state license and its number clears credentialing faster than one naming only the certification.
Demand for behavioral caseload work is growing quickly; the supervisory tier above it is small and slow to open. If you want the director job rather than another caseload, the evidence has to be about the staff you held and what happened to them.
What salary you can expect as a BCBA
With no federal wage figure for this credential, therefore, treat the bracketing occupations above as the band an offer sits inside, and read each figure as belonging only to the occupation BLS publishes it for.
At the lower edge of the band, for example, sits master's-level caseload counseling work. Specifically, substance abuse, behavioral disorder and mental health counselors had a median annual wage of $59,350 as of May 2025, with the lowest 10 percent under $38,940 and the highest 10 percent over $97,590 (BLS, May 2025).
At the upper edge, meanwhile, sits the doctoral-level assessment and supervision work. Psychologists overall had a median of $99,110 as of May 2025, with clinical and counseling psychologists at $100,580 and school psychologists at $95,990 (BLS, May 2025).
None of those figures is a BCBA wage, and you should not quote one as if it were. Instead, they set the shape of the question. For instance, a newly certified analyst holding one caseload is priced against the lower band; a certificant supervising a dozen technicians, owning a site's authorization file and carrying a state license is priced against the upper one.
In short, what moves you across that band is something you write, not negotiate: supervisee headcount and the monthly hours behind it, caseload size and setting mix, assessment volume, the authorized hours you defend, and retention among the staff you supervised. Those five numbers build the offer, so those five numbers belong on the page.
Key takeaways for a BCBA resume
- Firstly, lead with the BACB number and status; it is a gate, not an achievement.
- Name the pathway you certified under and the fieldwork variant and hour count behind it.
- Then split supervisees by credential and give the monthly supervision hours they generate.
- Similarly, state the caseload as a number with an age range and a setting mix.
- In addition, put the authorization figures on the page: hours requested, hours approved, appeals won.
- Say what happened to the people you supervised, because retention is the supervisory outcome.
- Finally, name the state license separately from the certification, with its number.

BCBA resume questions, answered
Should I put my BACB certification number on a BCBA resume?
Yes, with the certification year and the word active. The Behavior Analyst Certification Board maintains a public registry and every credentialing team checks it. The number moves your file from the verification queue into the clinical queue a day or more earlier, which matters when a provider is hiring against a caseload it cannot staff.
Which BACB pathway should I name, and does it matter?
Name yours. The BACB publishes four routes to the credential, from an accredited or recognized behavior analysis program through to a doctoral route requiring 10 years of cumulative practice (BACB, BCBA Handbook, updated 29 June 2026). They differ in where the coursework came from and how much fieldwork was required, and a supervisor deciding how much scaffolding you need in month one reads that closely.
How do I show caseload results without describing a client?
Use totals and program-level measures. Learner count and age range, assessments a year, mastered targets per learner per quarter, plans with a restrictive component reduced from nine to three, discharge to a lower service intensity. All of it is evidence, and none of it makes a child identifiable.
Is a state behavior analyst license separate from BACB certification?
Yes, and both belong on the page with their own numbers. The BACB's U.S. Licensure of Behavior Analysts resource describes the profession as licensed in over 33 states of the United States (BACB, page last modified 11 June 2026), and states build on the certification rather than replacing it: Michigan's Bureau of Professional Licensing requires verification of current certification in good standing with the BACB in the behavior analyst license file (Michigan LARA, Behavior Analyst Licensing Guide).
What goes on a BCBA resume in the first year after the examination?
The fieldwork, written as work. Pathway, variant, hour count, settings, and who supervised you by credential rather than by name. Then your first caseload and first supervisees, however few, and the authorization record: plans written, plans authorized at the requested level, and anything you rewrote and got approved. A first-year analyst whose plans come back funded is already answering the reader's question.
