Summary

An ABA therapist resume is a one page document naming your caseload, your direct service hours and the session data record behind both: which measurement systems you run, how agreement and integrity are checked, the platform the data lives in, and what a graph made the team change. This guide gives you three adaptable versions and current Bureau of Labor Statistics pay for the occupations BLS does publish.

ABA Therapist resume examples by experience level

An ABA therapist resume is a one page document that names your caseload, your weekly direct service hours, and the data you take while the session is happening.

That last item is what candidates leave off and what a clinical director reads for. Applied behavior analysis runs on a measured record: every teaching trial, every instance of a target behavior, every minute of engagement is written down as it occurs, graphed, and used to decide whether a program stays or changes. In practice, a therapist who cannot describe their own data is describing somebody else's sessions.

Resume guide for an ABA therapist resume

Specifically, this guide and the corresponding ABA therapist resume example will cover:

  • How to write an ABA therapist resume, block by block
  • The measurement systems you run, and how to name them on a page
  • Three adaptable summaries: new technician, experienced therapist and lead
  • Agreement and integrity checks, and why they belong on a resume
  • What Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows about pay in adjacent occupations

How to write an ABA therapist resume

Six blocks: contact header, summary, credential and setting, session experience, the data record, then skills and education. One page for almost everyone here, two only if you train staff or run a site.

In short, the order follows how a clinical director screens. Credential and setting are the first filter, because an in-home therapist and a center-based therapist do not have the same day. Caseload and hours price you, while the data record is where two identical files separate.

SectionWhat it is answeringWhere it goes
Credential and settingWhat can this person be scheduled for?Header and first block
Caseload and hoursHow much direct service, for how many learners?First line of every job
Session experienceWhat programs have they actually run?Bullets, with counts
Data recordCan I trust their numbers, and do they act on them? Its own block
Expert Tip

Write the measurement system, not the word data

"Collected and recorded data" appears on almost every resume in this occupation, and it tells a reader nothing. Behavior-analytic measurement is a set of specific procedures, and the one you ran says what kind of learner and what kind of program you worked with.

Trial-by-trial recording belongs to discrete trial teaching. Frequency and rate belong to behaviors with a clean start and stop. Duration and latency belong to behaviors defined by how long they run or how long they take to begin. Partial interval, whole interval and momentary time sampling are estimation procedures for behavior that is continuous or too fast to count.

Name the ones you have run, tie each to the program it served, and you have written three sentences nobody else in the folder has.

Run the finished file through the ATS resume checker before you apply. Multi-site ABA providers hire at volume through systems that parse your file before a supervisor opens it.

Choosing the best resume format for an ABA therapist resume

Reverse chronological, single column, one page. Move to two pages, however, only once you train staff, run integrity checks across other people's sessions, or coordinate a site.

Keep the timeline visible. Turnover in direct service work is high enough that clinical directors read gaps and short stays carefully, so a functional format that hides the sequence reads as a sequence worth hiding. Then make one structural choice: give the data record its own block rather than scattering it through bullets. It is the part of your work hardest to fake and easiest to verify, so it deserves a heading.

First, put the credential and the setting in the header. The Behavior Analyst Certification Board issues the registered behavior technician credential along with the BCaBA and BCBA certifications, and a director scanning a stack sorts by which of those a file carries before reading anything else.

Then put your weekly direct service hours on the page. After all, staffing an ABA caseload is arithmetic, and a therapist who can carry 30 billable hours is a different hire from one who carries 15.

Make use of a summary

In short, use four lines: credential and setting, caseload and hours, the measurement systems you run, and one thing your data changed.

New ABA therapist adaptable resume summary example

Registered behavior technician working in-home early intervention, carrying five learners and about 25 direct service hours a week since certifying eight months ago. Runs trial-by-trial and frequency recording on a tablet in session, with data entered before leaving the home on every visit across the last six months. Trained on discrete trial teaching, natural environment teaching and two written behavior intervention plans, and completes interobserver agreement sessions with the supervising analyst twice a month.

Experienced ABA therapist adaptable resume summary example

ABA therapist with five years across center-based and school-based programs, currently carrying nine learners and about 30 direct service hours a week. Runs trial-by-trial, frequency, duration and partial interval recording in CentralReach, with same-day entry on 99 percent of sessions over two years. Holds interobserver agreement above the clinic threshold across monthly checks, and flagged a three-week flat trend that led the analyst to change a reinforcement schedule and move mand training into the natural environment.

Lead ABA therapist adaptable resume summary example

Lead behavior technician with nine years in applied behavior analysis and four training new staff across a three-site clinic. Carries six learners and about 22 direct service hours a week while running treatment integrity checks on 40 sessions a month and agreement sessions across 11 technicians. Rebuilt the clinic data routine so graphs are current before the weekly clinical review, which cut the median lag between a session and a program change from 19 days to 6.

Center-based program with a school-based contract. Caseload of nine learners aged 3 to 11, about 30 direct service hours a week, running programs written by two analysts.

Run trial-by-trial, frequency, duration and partial interval recording in CentralReach; data entered before end of shift on 99 percent of sessions over the last two years.

Run 6 written behavior intervention plans covering elopement, aggression, property destruction and task refusal, each with a safety procedure and a replacement behavior program.

Complete interobserver agreement sessions twice a month with a supervising analyst, plus quarterly treatment integrity checks on my own programs.

Deliver caregiver training on reinforcement delivery and prompt fading, 22 sessions in the last year.

The session data you took, and what the graph changed

This is the block that separates two otherwise identical ABA therapist files, and almost nobody writes it. Applied behavior analysis is unusual in that the evidence is produced during the work rather than recalled after it, so the daily record is a professional skill and can be written as one. Write it in five parts.

The measurement systems you run. Name them, and tie each to what it was measuring. Trial-by-trial across discrete trial teaching. Frequency or rate for discrete instances of a target behavior. Duration for behavior defined by how long it lasts, latency for how long a response takes to begin. Partial interval, whole interval or momentary time sampling where the behavior is continuous or too rapid to count cleanly. Five named systems tell a reader more about your range than a paragraph of adjectives.

How the data was taken, and how fast it landed. There is a real difference between recording in the moment on a tablet, recording on paper and transcribing later, and reconstructing a session at the end of the day. Say which you did, name the platform, and give your entry lag. "Entered before end of shift on 99 percent of sessions over two years" is a line a supervisor believes at once, because they know how many people fail it.

Interobserver agreement and treatment integrity

Agreement: the check that makes your numbers worth anything. Interobserver agreement is a second observer recording the same session independently so the two records can be compared. It is the only evidence that your data describes the learner rather than your own attention. Say how often you sit for agreement sessions, whether you have been the second observer for someone else, and whether you stay above your clinical team's threshold. Do not invent a percentage.

Integrity: the check on whether the program was run as written. Treatment integrity, sometimes called procedural fidelity, asks whether the therapist delivered the procedure the way the plan specifies: the prompt hierarchy, the reinforcement schedule, the error correction. If your clinic scores integrity, say how often you are scored. If you score other people, that is a supervisory line and it belongs on the page.

What changed because of the graph

What changed because of the graph. This is what turns a data block into evidence of judgment. Program data exists to be acted on: a flat trend across several sessions, a baseline that never settles, mastery reached early, a behavior that climbs after an environmental change. Pick one, describe what the graph showed, and say what the team did next. You did not write the plan and should not claim you did. You noticed something and carried the change through, which is the contribution a clinical director is hiring.

Adaptable resume data record block example

Measurement: Trial-by-trial recording across discrete trial teaching; frequency and rate for aggression and elopement; duration for engagement and tantrum episodes; partial interval for vocal stereotypy; permanent product for written work and self-care tasks.

Platform and entry: CentralReach, recorded in session on a clinic tablet. Entered before end of shift on 99 percent of sessions across 24 months; no session reconstructed from memory.

Agreement: Interobserver agreement sessions twice a month with a supervising analyst, above the clinic threshold on every check in the last 18 months; second observer for four other technicians.

Integrity: Quarterly integrity checks on my own programs; as lead, integrity checks on 40 sessions a month across 11 technicians.

What the data changed: Flagged a three-week flat trend on an intraverbal program; the analyst moved the reinforcement schedule from fixed ratio to variable ratio and shifted mand training into the natural environment, and responding recovered within four sessions.

Five parts, and a clinical director knows whether your numbers can go into a progress report and whether you will catch a problem before the monthly review does.

Build a snapshot of your key skills

Twelve to sixteen entries in four groups: teaching procedures, measurement, behavior reduction and safety, then systems. Also, be honest about the difference between trained in, run under supervision, and certified in.

Adaptable resume skills example

Teaching procedures: Discrete trial teaching, natural environment teaching, task analysis and chaining, prompt fading hierarchies, errorless learning, mand, tact and intraverbal training, generalization and maintenance programming

Measurement: Trial-by-trial recording, frequency and rate, duration and latency, partial and whole interval, momentary time sampling, permanent product, interobserver agreement, treatment integrity scoring, graph reading and trend description

Behavior reduction and safety: Antecedent strategies, differential reinforcement, functional communication training, safety plan implementation, crisis prevention and de-escalation, incident documentation

Systems: CentralReach, Rethink Behavioral Health, tablet-based session notes, caregiver training delivery, notes written to medical necessity criteria, HIPAA-compliant handling of learner records

List your education and certifications

Credential first with its authority, then crisis and safety certifications, then the degree. The certificate is the gate here, while the degree is context.

Adaptable resume education and certification example

Registered Behavior Technician, Behavior Analyst Certification Board, certified 2017, active

Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst, Behavior Analyst Certification Board, certified 2023, active

Crisis prevention and de-escalation certification, current. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid, American Red Cross, current.

Master of Science, Applied Behavior Analysis, in progress, expected 2027. Bachelor of Arts, Psychology, University of Rhode Island, Kingston, RI, 2017.

Two rules here. Write a certification as active or expired, never ambiguous, because a provider cannot bill for a lapsed technician and will check. Similarly, write an in-progress graduate program as an education line with an expected date, not as a credential you hold.

Choose the right layout and design

Finally, keep a single column, 11 or 12 point, plain headings, no photograph, no icons, no color bars. Large ABA providers recruit continuously across many sites and parse applications before reading them; a two-column template is where your caseload line and credential date go missing.

Do

Put your credential, setting and weekly direct service hours in the header. Open every job with a caseload line: how many learners, what ages, what setting, how many direct hours. Name the measurement systems you have actually run. Give your data entry lag as a number. Say how often you sit for agreement and integrity checks. Describe one thing a graph changed and what the team did about it.

Iconly/Bold/Close Square Don’t

Do not write "collected data" where a measurement system belongs. Do not claim you wrote a behavior intervention plan if an analyst wrote it and you ran it. Do not invent an agreement percentage. Do not describe an identifiable learner, family or incident. Do not leave a lapsed certification undated on the page.

ABA therapist job market and outlook

The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes no Occupational Outlook Handbook profile for ABA therapists or registered behavior technicians, so there is no official wage or growth figure for the title. Instead, what BLS does publish are the occupations the work sits next to, and those are the numbers to plan against.

OccupationJobs, 2025Projected change, 2025-35Annual openingsMedian wage, May 2025

Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook, May 2025 wages with 2025 to 2035 projections.

Therefore, read those rows as a map, not a salary quote. For instance, psychiatric technicians and aides is the closest published analogue for paraprofessional direct service work in behavioral health, and it is growing quickly: 18 percent combined, against 22 percent for technicians alone (BLS, 2025 to 2035 projections). The counselor line, however, is the master's level destination occupation, not a wage a technician can claim.

Statistical insight

Setting moves the published wage more than tenure does

For psychiatric technicians, the closest published analogue to direct behavioral service work, the median annual wage in May 2025 ran from $47,090 in social assistance and $45,460 in offices of mental health practitioners down to $44,990 in outpatient care centers, $39,960 in private psychiatric and substance abuse hospitals and $39,920 in nursing and residential care facilities (BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook, May 2025).

That is a spread of roughly $7,000 between the top and bottom settings in one occupation, more than most people in direct service work gain by staying another two years in the same building.

The resume consequence is specific. Write your setting plainly, then write the record that travels: caseload, direct service hours, measurement systems, agreement and integrity. Those five facts read the same to an in-home provider, a center-based clinic and a school contract, which is what gives you the option to move where the wage is.

What salary you can expect as an ABA therapist

In fact, there is no published Bureau of Labor Statistics median for the ABA therapist title, and any national number quoted for it is not a federal statistic. Plan instead against the published occupations the role sits between.

Specifically, psychiatric technicians and aides had a combined median annual wage of $45,100, or $21.68 an hour, in May 2025, with technicians alone at $45,130 (BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook, May 2025). Similarly, social and human service assistants, a wider paraprofessional category covering much of the same setting range, had a median of $45,930, or $22.08 an hour, in the same cycle (BLS, May 2025). In other words, those two figures bracket the paraprofessional end of behavioral health work.

The published step upward is education. Meanwhile, substance abuse, behavioral disorder and mental health counselors, whose typical entry-level education is a master's degree, had a median annual wage of $59,350 in May 2025, with 533,400 jobs and 18 percent projected growth through 2035 (BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook, May 2025). That gap is why so many technicians enroll in a graduate program while working.

What a resume moves inside the technician role is narrower but real: direct service hours you can reliably carry, a caseload that includes behavior reduction rather than skill acquisition alone, agreement and integrity work across other people's sessions, and a data record clean enough to go straight into a progress report.

Key takeaways for an ABA therapist resume

  1. Put your credential, setting and weekly direct service hours in the header.
  2. Then open every job with a caseload line: learners, ages, setting, hours.
  3. Also name the measurement systems you run, and tie each to what it measured.
  4. In addition, give your data entry lag as a number, because supervisors know how hard it is.
  5. Say how often you sit for agreement and integrity checks, and whether you run them for others.
  6. Finally, describe one thing a graph changed, and credit the analyst with the plan change.
  7. Keep the file single column and parseable; multi-site providers parse before they read.

ABA therapist resume questions, answered

How long should an ABA therapist resume be?

One page. Two only once you train staff, run integrity checks across other technicians, or coordinate a site. Clinical directors here hire continuously and read fast, and a second page of program names does not help you.

What do I put on an ABA therapist resume with no experience?

Your credential with its authority and date, your availability in direct service hours, and any work where you followed a written procedure with a person who needed support: paraprofessional work in a school, direct support for adults with disabilities, camp, respite, or childcare with a documented routine. Then be explicit about the two things a provider worries about with a new hire, which are reliable attendance and same-day documentation.

Should I name the data platform I used?

Yes, by name. Name it the way you would name any clinical system: CentralReach, Rethink Behavioral Health, a proprietary platform, or paper with next-day entry. A provider on the same platform reads it as shorter onboarding, and one on a different platform reads it as evidence you can work inside a structured record at all.

How do I write about a learner without breaking confidentiality?

Write categories, counts and programs, never people. "Nine learners aged 3 to 11, four behavior reduction programs, two safety plans" tells a director everything they need. A story about one child, however anonymized it feels, says you will discuss learners outside the record, which is disqualifying in a field built on protected information.

Does the certifying body matter on the page?

Name it. The Behavior Analyst Certification Board issues the registered behavior technician, BCaBA and BCBA credentials, and a provider billing for your hours needs to see which one you hold and that it is active. Write the credential, the board and the status in one line at the top of the certification block.
