How to write a manufacturing technician resume
Six sections: contact header, summary, equipment and controls, experience, technical skills, and education with certifications. One page as an apprentice, two once you own a preventive maintenance program or a calibration system.
The equipment and controls block goes directly under the summary, and it is the only section a hiring manager is guaranteed to read.

Write down every machine you have touched, then mark what you are allowed to do to it
Make three columns: the machine, the control platform, and your level of intervention.
Level of intervention is the part almost nobody writes, and it decides the offer. Operating is not running preventive maintenance to a schedule, which is not troubleshooting to component level, which is not holding edit rights under change control.
Write the truth for each machine. "Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, read ladder logic to fault-find, no edit rights" is more credible than a vague claim of PLC programming, which an interviewer will test in the first fifteen minutes.

That last line matters more than it looks. Saying what you are not authorized to do is the strongest credibility signal in a technical resume, because every hiring manager has interviewed someone who claimed the whole stack and could not explain change control.

The same job title covers two different technicians, and the reader is looking for one of them.

Read the posting for which vocabulary it uses, then lead with that set. Most technicians can honestly write both, and the mistake is mixing them so neither manager sees their own job.
One title, two occupations, and they pay and grow differently

List your education and certifications
An associate's degree is the typical entry-level education for industrial engineering technologists and technicians, while a high school diploma is typical for industrial machinery mechanics (BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2026). A two-year electromechanical program plus a documented equipment history is the strongest combination on the market.

Site qualifications belong on the page. An authorized lockout and tagout qualification and a confined space sign-off remove two induction items from your first week, and a maintenance manager notices.
Choose the right layout and design
Single column, 11 or 12 point, no photograph, no rating bars for skills. Two pages once the equipment block and a real PM or calibration ownership line will not fit on one. Save as PDF and name the file for yourself and the role.
Name the process equipment and the vendors. Name the PLC platform and the HMI software. State your level of intervention per platform, including where you have edit rights and where you do not. Give the calibration scope as a loop count. Use the reliability metrics your reader uses: PM completion, MTBF, MTTR, downtime hours, OEE, scrap and yield. List site qualifications such as lockout and tagout and confined space. Match the posting's vocabulary, maintenance or process.
Do not write "PLC programming" if you read logic and do not edit it; the interview finds it out immediately. Do not write "various equipment" or "production machinery". Do not give an OEE figure without the line and the period it covers. Do not omit what you are not authorized to touch. Do not use skill rating bars, which parse badly and tell a technical reader nothing.

This title straddles two occupations, so it is worth giving both figures with their labels rather than a single number that is true of neither.
On the process-leaning side, industrial engineering technologists and technicians had a median annual wage of $66,120 as of May 2025, or $31.79 an hour. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $47,300 and the highest 10 percent more than $99,150 (BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook, May 2025).
