Summary
A business marketing manager resume is a one to two page document about business-to-business demand: the named account list your programs were aimed at, the buying committee inside those accounts, the pipeline you sourced and what sales accepted from it. This guide gives you three adaptable versions, an account and committee block, and current Bureau of Labor Statistics pay and outlook for marketing managers.
Business Marketing Manager resume examples by experience level
In short, a business marketing manager resume is a one to two page document about business-to-business demand. That is, not reach, not impressions, not followers: the named accounts your programs were pointed at, the people inside those accounts who had to agree, and how much pipeline came out the other end.
The title almost always means B2B, and that is what makes it a distinct document. By comparison, a consumer marketing resume can be written around audience and creative. A B2B one cannot, because nothing in B2B is decided by one person in one sitting. Your buyer, however, is a committee, your cycle is measured in quarters, and your result is a pipeline number that somebody in sales has to agree is real.
Resume guide for a business marketing manager resume
To that end, this guide and the corresponding business marketing manager resume example will cover:
- To begin with, how to write a business marketing manager resume, section by section
- Then, why the account list, not the channel list, is the unit of evidence
- Also, three adaptable summaries: associate, business marketing manager and enterprise segment lead
- How to report pipeline contribution so a sales leader believes it
- Finally, what the job market looks like and what you can expect to earn
How to write a business marketing manager resume
Six blocks: contact header, summary, the account and committee block, experience, skills, then education and certifications. One page under five years, two once you have carried a segment and a pipeline number through more than one plan.
The account and committee block sits under the summary because it establishes what kind of B2B you have done. Marketing to 90 named enterprise accounts and marketing to 40,000 small businesses are both business marketing, they share almost no mechanics, and the title does not distinguish them at all.
| Section | What it is answering | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Account and committee block | Who were the programs aimed at, and how many people had to agree? | Directly under the summary |
| Experience | What did they build, and how much pipeline did sales accept from it? | Reverse chronological, one commercial number per bullet |
| Sales alignment | How did leads reach sales, and what happened to the ones sent back? | One line inside each role |
| Skills | Demand, account programs and operations, before tool logos | Short grouped block |
Lead with pipeline contribution, not lead volume
Lead volume is the easiest number to produce and the least believed. Every B2B marketer has watched a chart of rising leads sit next to a flat revenue line, and so has every sales director who will read your resume.
Write the chain instead, in one sentence: how many opportunities you sourced, what they were worth, what share of new bookings that represented, and what sales accepted.
"Sourced $26 million of qualified pipeline against a $21 million target, 34 percent of new bookings, with 71 percent of handed-over opportunities accepted by sales first time" is four numbers that fit together. A reader can check them against a customer relationship management report, and the acceptance rate is the one that proves you were not gaming the definition.
If your company measures marketing-influenced rather than marketing-sourced pipeline, say which and define it. The two are different by a factor of three in most businesses, and using the bigger one without labeling it is the single fastest way to lose credibility in a second interview.
Run the finished file through the free ATS resume checker before you send it. B2B marketing roles draw heavy application volume and the first reader is a parser.
Choosing the best resume format for a business marketing manager resume
Reverse chronological, single column. Generally, one page for the first five years, two once you have owned a segment.
Keep the portfolio impulse in check. B2B marketing work is mostly invisible as craft: an account tier model, a nurture track, a sales handoff definition, a webinar series that produced eleven meetings. The evidence is the numbers and the mechanics, not the design of the landing page, and a layout built for visuals buries both.

Above all, the second and third lines do the screening work. Specifically, account count, sourced pipeline and cycle length place you inside B2B immediately. A channel list does not, because every B2B marketer has run all of those channels.
Make use of a summary
In effect, four lines: the market you sell into, the account list and its shape, one pipeline number with its target and period, and how you work with sales.
Business marketing associate in freight and logistics software, running email nurture, webinars and trade programs against a target list of 400 named mid-market carriers. Produced 188 sales-accepted opportunities in two years, worth $4.7 million of pipeline, with the webinar series alone generating 61 first meetings at a cost per meeting of $410. Built the first version of the account tier model still used by the commercial team.
Business marketing manager for a B2B supply chain software company, owning demand for a named list of 420 accounts split into three tiers. Sourced $26 million of qualified pipeline against a $21 million target, 34 percent of new bookings, with 71 percent of handed-over opportunities accepted by sales first time. Rewrote the lead handoff with the sales director into a single qualified-opportunity definition and a 24-hour response standard, which cut rejected records from 38 percent to 12 percent.
Business marketing manager for the enterprise segment, leading 3 marketers against a list of 120 named accounts averaging 8 stakeholders across 4 functions per deal. Sourced $58 million of pipeline and 41 percent of new enterprise bookings, on an average cycle of 14 months from first engagement to signature. Built the account-based program that took engaged-account coverage from 29 percent to 74 percent of the Tier 1 list and lifted opportunity-to-close from 17 percent to 26 percent over six quarters.
Right vs wrong: the same business marketing manager summary, twice
| ✅ Right | ❌ Wrong |
|---|---|
| Owning demand for a named list of 420 accounts split into three tiers. | Responsible for B2B marketing strategy across all channels. |
| Sourced $26 million of qualified pipeline against a $21 million target, 34 percent of new bookings. | Generated significant pipeline growth and increased brand awareness. |
| 71 percent of handed-over opportunities accepted by sales first time. | Worked closely with sales to drive alignment and revenue. |
| Cut rejected records from 38 percent to 12 percent by rewriting the qualified-opportunity definition. | Optimized lead quality through improved targeting. |
On one hand, the right column is a set of claims a sales director can verify in ten minutes. On the other hand, the left column is what the other forty applications say, and the reader has learned to discount it.
Outline your business marketing experience
Then give company, what it sells and to whom, the account list and segment you covered, the sales team you worked with, your dates. Then three to five bullets, each with a commercial number rather than an activity.

Business Marketing Manager, Ambleside Supply Software, Atlanta, GA, B2B supply chain software, 260 employees, February 2022 to Present
Own demand for a named list of 420 mid-market and enterprise accounts in three tiers, working with a 7-person sales team on an average 9-month cycle. Report to the vice president of marketing and attend the weekly pipeline call.
Sourced $26 million of qualified pipeline against a $21 million target, contributing 34 percent of new bookings in the most recent year.
Handed 340 opportunities to named account executives at a 71 percent first-time acceptance rate, up from 58 percent, against a written definition we agreed jointly.
Rewrote the lead handoff with the sales director: one qualified-opportunity definition, a 24-hour response standard and a monthly review of rejected records, which cut rejections from 38 percent to 12 percent.
Rebuilt lead scoring around buying committee coverage rather than individual behavior, so an account with four engaged stakeholders outranks one with a single repeat visitor; opportunity conversion moved from 9 percent to 15 percent.
Retired two trade shows and a syndicated content program that had produced no accepted opportunities in four quarters, and moved the budget into a Tier 1 account program and customer reference work.
Name the account list and the buying committee your programs were built for
This is the block that separates a B2B marketing resume from a marketing resume; however, it is the one almost nobody writes.
Consumer marketing has an audience. Business marketing has a list and a committee, and the reader wants both described in figures. Five lines cover it.
| Line | What to write | Worked example |
|---|---|---|
| The list | How many named accounts, how tiered, and on what basis | 420 accounts in three tiers, tiered on employee count, fleet size and current system |
| The committee | Average stakeholders per deal, and which functions | 8 stakeholders across operations, finance, IT and legal |
| Coverage | Share of the target list with engaged stakeholders in the period | 74 percent of Tier 1 with two or more engaged contacts in the last two quarters |
| The chain | Sourced pipeline, target, share of bookings, acceptance rate | $26M sourced against $21M, 34 percent of bookings, 71 percent accepted |
| The cycle | Average time from first engagement to signature, and to first revenue | 9 months mid-market, 14 months enterprise |
Target list: 420 named accounts in three tiers. Tier 1 is 120 enterprise accounts, Tier 2 is 300 mid-market, Tier 3 is unnamed inbound. Tiering is on employee count, fleet size and incumbent system.
Buying committee: 8 stakeholders on an average enterprise deal across operations, finance, IT and legal. Security review and procurement are the two stages that stall deals, so both have their own content set.
Coverage: 74 percent of the Tier 1 list had two or more engaged stakeholders in the last two quarters, up from 29 percent.
Pipeline chain: $26 million sourced against a $21 million target, 34 percent of new bookings, 340 opportunities handed over, 71 percent accepted by sales first time.
Cycle: 9 months from first engagement to signature in mid-market, 14 months in enterprise. Longest closed deal 22 months.
How to write the B2B account block
Four notes on writing that block so it survives a sales leader reading it.
Write the committee, not the persona. Persona documents are internal artifacts and they all look the same. What a hiring manager wants is the count and the functions: who has to say yes, who can only say no, and where the deal stalls. A candidate who says "security review and procurement are where we lose two months, so both have their own content set" is describing a real B2B market.
Give coverage, because it is the only honest measure of an account program. Account-based marketing is the most over-claimed phrase on B2B resumes. The number that proves it is coverage: what share of the named list had more than one engaged stakeholder in the period. Anyone can send a direct mail to a list of accounts and call it a program.
Define sourced and influenced, and pick one. Marketing-sourced means the opportunity originated in a marketing program. Marketing-influenced means marketing touched it somewhere. Both are legitimate; quoting the influenced number without the label is not, and the reader will ask.
Say where you sit in the sales cadence. Whether you attend the weekly pipeline call, run a monthly rejected-records review, or sit in quarterly business reviews tells a reader how close to revenue you have actually worked. It is one line and it carries more than a paragraph about alignment.
Your buyer is a committee that mostly disagrees with itself
In a Gartner survey of 632 B2B buyers conducted in August and September 2024, 74 percent of B2B buyer teams showed unhealthy conflict during the buying decision process, meaning conflicting objectives, disagreement on strategy, or being overruled by an outside decision maker (Gartner, 7 May 2025).
The same research put the size of the problem in plain terms: buying teams range from five to 16 people across as many as four functions, and buying groups that reach consensus are 2.5 times more likely to report a high-quality deal (Gartner, 7 May 2025).
For a resume, that reframes what a business marketing manager is being hired to do. The job is not to reach more people, it is to help a group of people who disagree arrive at the same answer. That is why the committee line, the coverage figure and the content that gets forwarded internally are worth more on the page than any reach or engagement metric, and why "produced a security review pack that procurement asked for by name" is a stronger bullet than a click-through rate.
Build a snapshot of your key skills
For skills, similarly, twelve to sixteen entries in four groups. Put the commercial and account skills first, because the platforms change every two years and everybody lists them.
Demand and pipeline: Marketing-sourced pipeline modeling, Account tiering and target list design, Campaign planning against a pipeline target, Cost per opportunity and payback analysis, Forecast input to the sales pipeline call
Account programs: Account-based program design, Buying committee mapping, Engaged-account coverage measurement, Reference and advocacy programs, Executive and field events for named accounts
Sales alignment: Qualified-opportunity definitions, Lead routing and response standards, Rejected-record review, Sales enablement content, Win and loss interviews
Operations and systems: Marketo Engage, Salesforce, Demandbase style account intelligence, 6sense style intent data, Excel and Power BI pipeline reporting
List your education and certifications
Degree, then any marketing operations or B2B credential with its issuing body and year, then short courses that show commercial grounding. Five or six lines.
Bachelor of Business Administration, Marketing, Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA, 2019. Minor in supply chain management.
Adobe Certified Professional, Marketo Engage Business Practitioner, Adobe, 2023.
Professional Certified Marketer, Marketing Management, American Marketing Association, 2024, maintained current.
Continuing: financial statements for non-financial managers, completed 2025. Contract and procurement basics for sellers, completed 2025.
The last line reads oddly on a marketing resume and that is exactly why it works. In fact, a business marketing manager who understands what procurement is doing to a deal in month seven is unusual, and it shows up in the content they build.
Choose the right layout and design
Overall, single column, 11 point, no photograph, no skill dials, no brand-colored headers. PDF unless the portal asks for Word. One link to a work sample if you have one worth opening.
Also, do not put customer logos on the page. After all, you were almost certainly not authorized to use them personally, and a logo wall says nothing that "420 named mid-market and enterprise accounts in freight and logistics" does not say better.
Say what you sell and to whom in the first line. Give the named account count and how the list is tiered. State the average buying committee size and its functions. Report sourced pipeline with the target, the share of bookings and the acceptance rate. Label sourced or influenced explicitly. Give the cycle length for each segment. Name the sales meeting you attend.
Do not lead with lead volume or with reach. Do not claim account-based marketing without a coverage number. Do not quote influenced pipeline as if it were sourced. Do not list twelve platforms and no commercial number. Do not put customer logos on a personal resume. Do not describe the work as driving alignment, which is the thing every applicant claims and none of them measures.
Business marketing manager job market and outlook
In general, the Bureau of Labor Statistics counts business marketing managers inside marketing managers, which sits within the advertising, promotions and marketing managers group. There is no separate B2B occupation, so the published figures cover consumer and business marketing together.
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Advertising, promotions and marketing manager jobs, 2025 | 454,800 |
| Of which marketing managers, 2025 | 421,600 |
| Projected change, 2025 to 2035 | 6 percent, +27,900 |
| Projected annual openings | About 36,300 |
| Typical entry-level education | Bachelor's degree, plus experience in a related role |
| Median annual wage, marketing managers, May 2025 | $166,790 |

Where those jobs sit is unusually informative for a B2B marketer, because the industries that employ the most marketing managers are the ones that sell to other businesses. For instance, professional, scientific and technical services employ 23 percent of marketing managers, management of companies and enterprises 12 percent, and finance and insurance, information and wholesale trade 10 percent each (BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook, May 2025). In other words, four of those five are business-to-business markets.
| Industry | Share of marketing managers | Median annual wage, May 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Professional, scientific and technical services | 23 percent | $170,050 |
| Management of companies and enterprises | 12 percent | $172,580 |
| Finance and insurance | 10 percent | $172,350 |
| Information | 10 percent | $192,600 |
| Wholesale trade | 10 percent | $165,630 |

What salary you can expect as a business marketing manager
Marketing managers had a median annual wage of $166,790 in May 2025, with the lowest 10 percent earning less than $90,260 and the highest 10 percent more than $293,610 (BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook, May 2025).
That is a spread of more than three to one, and the title explains none of it. A business marketing manager producing campaign assets for a product line and one owning a segment pipeline number with a team are both called the same thing on a job board. Indeed, the account and committee block is what separates them on paper, which is the practical reason to write it.
Moreover, three things move you through the band. Owning a pipeline number comes first, because that is what the role is paid for and it is the one claim a hiring manager tests hardest. Segment comes second; for example, enterprise programs with 14-month cycles and eight-person committees are priced above mid-market volume demand, and the cycle length on your resume signals which you have run. Third is industry, and here the B2B markets pay well: information at $192,600, management of companies at $172,580 and finance and insurance at $172,350 all sit above the occupation median, while the spread across the top five employing industries is about $27,000 at the median (BLS, May 2025).
Key takeaways for a business marketing manager resume
- Firstly, say what you sell and to whom in the first line, because B2B is the whole premise of the title.
- Give the named account count and how the list is tiered.
- Then write the buying committee: how many stakeholders, which functions, where deals stall.
- In addition, report the pipeline chain: sourced, target, share of bookings, acceptance rate.
- Finally, label sourced or influenced, and never quote the larger one silently.
- Give engaged-account coverage before claiming an account-based program.
- State the cycle length by segment, including the longest closed deal.
- Name the sales meeting you sit in, because proximity to revenue is the seniority signal.

Business marketing manager resume questions, answered
Is a business marketing manager the same as a marketing manager?
In pay data, yes: the Bureau of Labor Statistics counts both inside marketing managers, median $166,790 in May 2025 (BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook, May 2025). In practice the word business signals B2B, and the resume should be written for it. Long cycles, buying committees, named account lists and a pipeline number rather than reach are what a B2B hiring manager is reading for.
How long should a business marketing manager resume be?
One page for the first five years, two once you have owned a segment and a pipeline number across more than one annual plan. The second page earns its place if it carries a second segment with a different cycle and a different committee, not a longer list of campaigns.
What if my company never gave marketing a pipeline number?
Write what you did own, precisely. Sales-accepted opportunities, first meetings booked, cost per meeting, reference customers produced, or a named account list you moved from cold to engaged are all real B2B measures. State that pipeline attribution was not in place and give the measure that was. That reads as honesty; an invented pipeline number reads as one question away from collapsing.
How do I prove account-based marketing experience?
With coverage, not with the phrase. Give the size of the target list, how it was tiered and on what basis, the share of accounts with two or more engaged stakeholders in a defined period, and what that did to opportunity conversion. A candidate who cannot produce a coverage figure has usually run a campaign against a list rather than an account program.
Should I include reach and engagement metrics at all?
Only where they sit inside a commercial chain. "61 first meetings from a six-part webinar series at a cost per meeting of $410" is useful because it ends in a meeting. Impressions, followers and click-through rates on their own belong on a consumer marketing resume, and on a B2B file they signal that nobody ever held you to pipeline.
How do I move from consumer marketing into business marketing?
Change the unit from audience to account. Pull out anything you did that involved a named list, a long decision, a procurement or legal step, a partner or reseller, or a sale to another business rather than a consumer. Then learn the vocabulary properly before the interview, because sourced against influenced pipeline, sales acceptance and committee coverage are the three places an underprepared candidate gets found out.
