Ms. Renata Cordova Store Hiring Team Ozark Crossing Supercentre Rogers, United States

Application for Overnight Stocking and Fulfillment Associate, Rogers store, requisition R-48120

Dear Ms. Cordova,

I am applying for the Overnight Stocking and Fulfillment Associate role at the Rogers store, requisition R-48120. I can work Sunday to Thursday, 10pm to 7am, and I am available for freight days, inventory weekends and the November to January intake. I am evaluated on both sit-down counterbalance and stand-up reach trucks.

I have spent four years on the overnight side of a supercentre in Bentonville. The part I would most want to bring to Rogers is what happened to our replenishment set: we were finishing 79% of a 14 aisle set most nights, and after resequencing the aisle plan and moving freight breakdown ahead of the pick window, we finished 96% across a full trading year. Over the same period I cut digital order substitutions on my zone from 11% to 4% by rebuilding the pick path, which is the change customers notice first.

I am applying to Rogers because it runs a larger digital fulfillment volume than my current store and I want to work that side properly rather than as weekend cover. I can also take front end shifts at weekend peaks, where I run 40 to 60 transactions an hour and close a till with no variance, so I am useful on a night the rota breaks.

My powered truck evaluation is current to March 2026 and I hold a food safety manager certification. I can give two weeks' notice and start on any Sunday after that. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely, Tyrese Vandermeer

Summary

A Walmart cover letter is a one page letter for a very large hourly employer that names the role family you are applying to, the shifts you can genuinely cover, and one measured result from a shift you have worked. This guide gives you a full adaptable letter, how it changes between the sales floor and the fulfillment side, and how to reuse it for an internal transfer later.

Walmart cover letter examples by experience level

A Walmart cover letter is a one page letter that tells a very large hourly employer which role family you are applying to, which shifts you can cover, and what changed on a shift you actually worked.

This guide is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Walmart or any other retailer, and it contains no inside knowledge of any company's hiring. It uses what the company publishes openly on its own careers site as one worked example, and it applies to any national general merchandise, grocery or logistics employer.

Walmart's published careers material states that "a resume or CV is not required to apply" and that "you cannot change your application after submitting" (careers.walmart.com, accessed September 2026). A letter is not the center of that process. It is the one field where you can say something the structured form never asks for, which makes it worth two hundred and fifty words.

Expert Tip

Name the role family and the shift before anything else

A very large employer is several labor markets sharing a logo. Walmart publishes its career areas openly as Stores and Clubs, Supply Chain and Transportation, Healthcare, Technology, and Corporate (careers.walmart.com, accessed September 2026), and the hourly reader is staffing one of them, on one shift, against a rota with holes in it.

So answer their real question first: "I am applying for the overnight stocking and fulfillment role at the Rogers store, and I can work Sunday to Thursday, 10pm to 7am." Neither fact is a claim about your personality, which is why both get read.

Open with the role family, not with enthusiasm

Every line in the right column is checkable or schedulable. That is the only test worth applying to a sentence in this letter.

The middle paragraph: one number from a real shift

Hourly retail and supply chain work produces numbers constantly, and almost nobody writes them down.

Kind of evidenceWhat it looks like in a sentence
CompletionTook a 14 aisle overnight set from 79% to 96% completion across a trading year
AccuracyCut digital order substitutions on my zone from 11% to 4% by rebuilding the pick path
ThroughputPicked 110 to 140 digital grocery orders a shift at a 98.4% item fill rate
Front endRan 40 to 60 transactions an hour and closed a till 180 shifts with no variance
SafetyHeld zero recordable injuries on a 22-person shift for 26 months

Pick one. A letter with a single before-and-after figure and a time frame reads as evidence. A letter with five reads as a retyped resume.

Writing a letter that also works for an internal transfer

Plan for this, because at this scale most of your applications will eventually be internal ones. Walmart's corporate careers material states that "75% of our U.S. store management team started as hourly associates" (corporate.walmart.com, accessed September 2026). Whatever the equivalent figure is where you join, the structure holds: the ladder runs upward through the building rather than in through the front door, and your second letter goes to a manager two departments away.

So write in units that travel: completion rates, accuracy rates, volume per hour, people trained and signed off. A till variance and an item fill rate are both accuracy claims, and either reader recognizes the other. Keep dates on everything, because an internal move is decided on documentation rather than on who remembers you.

Do

Name the role family, the site and the requisition number in the first sentence. Give your shift as days and times. Use one before-and-after number with a period of time attached. Say which other role family you could cover, since that is what makes you useful on a bad night. List equipment evaluations with their most recent date.

Iconly/Bold/Close Square Don’t

Do not open with how much you admire the company. Do not write "flexible" when you mean specific hours. Do not guess at pay, shift premiums, assessment content or promotion criteria; none of that is public. Do not send the same letter to five role families. Do not exceed one page.

Statistical insight

The better-paid half of the same application portal

Retail salespersons had a median annual wage of $35,560 in May 2025 and are projected to change by 0% between 2025 and 2035, a decline of 14,000 jobs. Stockers and order fillers had a median of $37,330 and are projected to grow 9%, an increase of 250,700, and heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers had a median of $58,640 with about 214,500 openings a year (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook, May 2025 wages and 2025-35 projections). Retail directly employed 32.2 million people and supported 55 million jobs in 2022, about 26% of total United States employment (National Retail Federation, 26 November 2024, research by PwC).

The growth and the money are on the fulfillment, freight and driving side of the same employer, and those are the shifts hardest to staff. If you can work overnight and be evaluated on powered equipment, say so in the first three sentences rather than the last three.

Length, format and sending it

One page, four paragraphs, 250 to 400 words. PDF unless the portal names a format, named for yourself and the role: tyrese-vandermeer-overnight-fulfillment-cover-letter.pdf.

Address a person where the posting names one and the site where it does not: "Dear Rogers store hiring team" beats "To whom it may concern". Quote the requisition number, because at this volume that is how your letter reaches the right file.

Use the same figures as your resume so the two agree. Our Walmart resume example uses the numbers here, and the free Rezoom ATS resume checker will tell you whether the pair parses before you upload.

Key takeaways for a Walmart cover letter

  1. Name the role family, the site and the requisition in the first sentence.
  2. Give your availability as days and times, never as "flexible".
  3. Use one before-and-after number with a period of time attached.
  4. Say which second role family you could be rostered on.
  5. List equipment evaluations with the truck type and the most recent date.
  6. Write in portable units; the next letter is probably an internal transfer.
  7. Keep it to one page and never speculate about pay or hiring criteria.

Walmart cover letter questions, answered

Do I need a cover letter if the application is just a form?

Not always, and the employer will tell you. Walmart's published careers material states that "a resume or CV is not required to apply" (careers.walmart.com, accessed September 2026), and many hourly requisitions have no letter field. Where there is one, use it: in a pile where almost nobody attaches anything, four sentences answering the scheduling question get read.

How long should a Walmart cover letter be?

One page, four paragraphs, 250 to 400 words. These are read in batches against a rota, and length does not read as effort. Save anything longer for a salaried management or distribution center application.

What do I write with no retail experience?

Write the work you have in retail units: hours a week, volume handled, pace, accuracy. The typical entry-level education for both retail sales workers and stockers and order fillers is no formal educational credential (BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook, May 2025), and these employers hire constantly from warehousing, hospitality, agriculture and the military. One number from a real shift beats a paragraph about your attitude.

Should I mention which shift I want?

Yes, in the first three sentences. Overnight, early morning and weekend cover is the scarcest thing in this market, which is why many large employers attach a shift differential to it. Check the posting for the band rather than assuming: pay and premiums are set per site and per shift.

Can I use the same letter for an internal transfer?

Most of it, if you wrote it in portable units the first time. Keep completion rates, accuracy rates, volume per hour and people trained, and add the dates of every evaluation picked up since. Internal moves are decided on documentation, and a letter naming a certification with its month is one a transfer board can act on.
