Is LinkedIn Easy Apply Worth It? When It Works and When It Wastes Time
Is LinkedIn Easy Apply worth it? See response rates vs direct applications and referrals, when to use it, and 3 ways to make your Easy Apply stand out.
On this pageWhat is LinkedIn Easy Apply, and how is it different from applying directly?
Summary
LinkedIn Easy Apply is worth it for fresh postings, high-volume roles and jobs you would not otherwise apply to, but it should not be your main channel. In Huntr's December 2025 survey, 72.5% of job seekers said Easy Apply led to no interviews that year. Referrals and company career pages convert far better: CareerPlug data shows referrals were 2% of applicants but 11.3% of hires. Use Easy Apply with a tailored resume and a short recruiter message.
LinkedIn Easy Apply is worth it for some jobs, but it works best as a supporting channel, not your whole search. It is fast, so it is also crowded, and most Easy Apply applications never turn into an interview.
The numbers show the trade-off. LinkedIn says about 8,200 job applications1 are submitted on the platform every minute. In Huntr's survey2 of 1,049 job seekers, 72.5% said Easy Apply did not lead to a single interview in 2025.
So is LinkedIn Easy Apply worth it? Yes, when you use it on the right postings and add what most applicants skip. This guide shows the data, a simple decision rule and three ways to stand out.
What is LinkedIn Easy Apply, and how is it different from applying directly?
When a posting shows the Easy Apply button, you never leave LinkedIn. You confirm your contact details, attach a resume, answer any screening questions and submit. The employer sees your application with a link to your profile.
A direct application sends you to the company's own careers page. There you usually create an account, upload a resume and fill in longer forms. It takes more time, but you often get more room to tailor, such as a cover letter field.
Recruiter Richie Lampani told SUCCESS5 that Easy Apply is "fast, convenient" and keeps your applications organized. He also warned that it may not connect cleanly to some employers' applicant tracking systems, so an Easy Apply submission can be reviewed late or not at all.
Is LinkedIn Easy Apply worth it? Pros and cons
The pros are speed, a profile recruiters can click into, and one place to track applications. The cons are huge applicant pools, little room to tailor, and possible gaps between LinkedIn and the employer's ATS. It is worth it for low-stakes or fresh postings, and weaker for jobs you really want.
| LinkedIn Easy Apply | Direct application | Referral | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time per application | A few minutes | Longer, with more forms | Plus time to ask a contact |
| Room to tailor | Resume upload and a few questions | Resume, cover letter, longer answers | Resume plus a personal endorsement |
| Competition | Very high | Lower | Lowest |
| Best for | Fresh, high-volume or exploratory roles | Priority roles | Roles you want most |
The biggest con is volume. When applying takes seconds, a posting can fill with candidates who meet few of the requirements. Greenhouse6 found 34% of US recruiters and hiring managers spend up to half their week filtering spam and junk applications. Your application has to look clearly relevant in that queue. That is why only 27.5% of Huntr's survey respondents got even one interview from LinkedIn Easy Apply last year.
The biggest pro is your profile. A recruiter can click from your application to your headline, experience and skills. If your profile is strong, Easy Apply shows it off. If it is thin, Easy Apply exposes that too.

How do Easy Apply response rates compare to direct applications and referrals?
Public data on Easy Apply alone is limited, so here is what the sourced numbers show.
Platform response rates. Huntr tracked 598,627 applications in 2025. Applications from LinkedIn moved to the interview stage 3.1% of the time. Google Jobs was 11.3% and Indeed 4.5%. These figures cover LinkedIn overall, not only Easy Apply, and rely on users updating their own pipelines.
The survey view. In the same report, 27.5% of 1,049 job seekers said Easy Apply led to at least one interview in 2025. That leaves 760 people, or 72.5%, with none.
Source of hire. CareerPlug's 2025 Recruiting Metrics Report3 covered 2024 hiring at more than 60,000 small businesses. Here is how each source performed.
| Source | Share of applicants | Share of hires | Hires vs applicant share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Referrals | 2% | 11.3% | About 5.7x |
| Company careers page | 13.1% | 26.8% | About 2x |
| Job boards | 61.3% | 43.3% | About 0.7x |
The last column is our calculation from CareerPlug's figures. Referrals punch far above their weight. LinkedIn has said the same: when it launched referral requests, it said candidates are four times more likely4 to hear back from a recruiter if referred. That figure dates from 2018, but the CareerPlug data shows the pattern holds.
When should you use LinkedIn Easy Apply?
Use LinkedIn Easy Apply when a posting is less than a few days old, the role is high-volume or standardized, you match most requirements, or you are exploring a new field. Apply directly or get a referral when the job is a top priority, you know someone at the company, or the posting asks you to apply on its site.
Use this decision rule for each posting.
Use Easy Apply when:
- The posting is new and you meet most required qualifications.
- The role is high-volume, such as sales development or customer support.
- You are testing interest in a field and want quick feedback.
- Your LinkedIn profile already matches the role closely.
Skip it or add a second step when:
- The job is in your top 10. Apply on the company site or ask for a referral.
- You know someone at the company. Ask them first, then apply.
- The posting says to apply on the employer's website. Lampani warns those Easy Apply submissions may not be tracked.
Spread across a week, this mix keeps volume steady without leaning on the weakest channel. Our guide on how many jobs to apply to suggests weekly targets.
Apply once, then reach out once
For any role you care about, pair each LinkedIn Easy Apply submission with one human touch within 48 hours: a message to the recruiter, the hiring manager or a former colleague at the company. That single step moves you closer to the referral column in the table above.
How do you make a LinkedIn Easy Apply application stand out?
Fix three things. First, make your LinkedIn profile match the role, starting with the headline and top skills. Second, upload a resume tailored to the posting instead of a generic default. Third, send a short message to the recruiter or hiring manager after applying, naming the role and one relevant result.
1. Profile. Recruiters click through, so your headline should name the role you want and two core skills. Our guide to LinkedIn profile optimization and these LinkedIn headline examples cover the details. Add the skills from the posting to your profile's skills section if you genuinely have them.
2. Resume upload. Do not rely on the default resume LinkedIn saved months ago. Upload a version tailored to the posting. Huntr found tailored resumes converted to interviews at 5.8%, versus 3.73% for untailored ones. Our step-by-step guide on how to upload a resume in LinkedIn shows where to swap the file.

Summary: Customer Success Manager with 5 years in B2B SaaS. Own a $1.8M renewal book with 93% gross retention and cut onboarding time from 30 days to 18.
3. Follow-up message. Find the recruiter or hiring manager named on the posting or the company page. Send a brief note after you apply. Keep it under 300 characters so it fits a connection request.
Hi Morgan, I just applied for the Customer Success Manager role through Easy Apply. I manage a $1.8M SaaS renewal book at 93% retention and would welcome a quick chat if my background fits.
Do
- Tailor the resume file for every priority role
- Answer screening questions accurately and completely
- Message one person at the company within 48 hours
- Apply within the first few days of a posting
Don’t
- Use the same saved resume for every Easy Apply job
- Apply to roles where you miss most requirements
- Send a long, generic pitch to the recruiter
- Use a bot to mass-apply through Easy Apply
That last point matters. Auto-apply tools often target Easy Apply forms, and they put your account at risk. Our sibling guide to auto apply bots for jobs covers why.
How do you follow up after LinkedIn Easy Apply?
Send a short connection request or InMail to the recruiter or hiring manager within two days of applying. If you hear nothing, follow up once more after about a week. Mention the exact role title, one result that fits the job, and avoid asking whether they received your application.
A follow-up works because it turns an anonymous entry into a name. Keep it specific and short. Track each application and contact date in a job application tracker so you never message the same person twice in a week.
If a week passes, one polite nudge is fine. Our guide on how to follow up on a job application includes timing and templates. To understand what recruiters see on their side, read our sibling guide on how recruiters search ATS databases.
Before your next round of LinkedIn Easy Apply submissions, build a tailored version of your resume for each priority role. The Rezoom AI resume builder matches your resume to a pasted job description in minutes, so the file you upload fits the posting.

Do recruiters look at LinkedIn Easy Apply applications?
Many do, especially for roles posted only on LinkedIn. But volume is high, and some employers' tracking systems may not pull Easy Apply submissions in smoothly. A follow-up message helps your application get noticed.
Is it better to apply on LinkedIn or the company website?
For priority roles, the company website is usually better. CareerPlug data shows career pages produced 26.8% of hires from 13.1% of applicants, while job boards underperformed their share.
Does Easy Apply hurt your chances?
Not by itself. It hurts when the application is generic or the role is a poor fit. A tailored resume, a strong profile and a short recruiter message keep it competitive.
How many Easy Apply jobs should I apply to per day?
Focus on fit over count. A handful of well-matched Easy Apply roles a day, each with a tailored resume, usually beats dozens of generic ones.
Should I send a message after LinkedIn Easy Apply?
Yes, for jobs you care about. A two-sentence note to the recruiter or hiring manager within 48 hours, naming the role and one relevant result, is enough.
Can I see who viewed my Easy Apply application?
LinkedIn may show status updates such as when an application was viewed, depending on the employer and posting. Treat "viewed" as a signal to follow up, not as a decision.
