Clear the federal bar in the first two lines
For instructional work in a Title I, Part A programme, 34 CFR 200.58 requires a secondary school diploma or recognised equivalent plus one of three routes: two years of study at an institution of higher education, an associate's or higher degree, or a passing result on a formal state or local academic assessment.
A personnel office checks that before reading anything else, so write it: "I am Title I qualified under 34 CFR 200.58 by the associate degree route, and my duties have been instructional throughout."
That sentence does the check for them, and signals that you know the difference between an instructional and a non-instructional assignment, which is what the office is coding your file against.

Describing the assignment without describing a student
This is where a paraprofessional letter can do real harm, because the format invites a story and the story is about a child. Instead, write the assignment as the paperwork writes it.

For example, under IDEA, 34 CFR 300.156(b)(2)(iii) permits paraprofessionals "who are appropriately trained and supervised, in accordance with State law, regulation, or written policy" to assist in providing special education and related services. That is the standard the letter should demonstrate: trained, delegated, supervised, documented. In short, none of it needs a detail about a child.
Flat headcount, very high turnover, and what that means for the letter
The occupation stood at 1,463,000 jobs in 2025 with little or no change projected through 2035, a net loss of 4,900 posts, while producing about 176,200 openings a year, nearly all replacements. The median annual wage was $36,780 in May 2025 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2025-35 projections and May 2025 wage data).
It is also a unionised, classified workforce: in 2025 annual averages, 32.5 percent of workers in education, training and library occupations were union members and 35.9 percent were represented (BLS, Union Members 2025, released 18 February 2026).
Both facts point the same way. Districts are replacing people constantly and buying stability and training currency, so say plainly that you clear the bar, your record is current, and you intend to stay.
Hours, classification and the credential pathway
However, two things belong in most paraprofessional letters and are usually missing.
Your classification, hours and duty days. "Instructional Aide III, 6.0 hours a day, 183-day work year" tells an office where to place you on the classified schedule and whether prior service can be credited.
The credential pathway, if you are on one. Registered teacher apprenticeship programs exist in 45 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and they frequently serve currently employed school staff such as paraprofessionals (EdTrust, Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Programs, 10 January 2025). If you have enrolled in one, say so with the credential and the expected date. It reads as retention, not as one foot out of the door.
