Resolve the title before you do anything else
The first question in a clinical manager's head is not what you believe about therapy. It is whether your signature stands on its own.
So answer it: "I am a licensed mental health counselor in Washington, credential LH 60418827, practicing independently." That sentence tells them the post can be filled, the notes do not need countersigning, and credentialing can start.
If you are pre-licensed, the equivalent sentence is just as useful and should be just as plain: "I hold the Washington associate credential and have completed 2,140 of the required 3,000 postgraduate hours, with full licensure anticipated in March 2027." Managers staff around that date routinely. What they cannot staff around is a letter that leaves the tier unstated.

One caution that is worth stating in the letter rather than discovering later. The Counseling Compact excludes counselors who are still completing supervised hours from the privilege to practice, regardless of what their license title says (Counseling Compact, September 2026). If a practice advertises a post as multistate telehealth, an associate applicant should say plainly that they are applying for the in-state portion of the work.
Telehealth, state lines and the compact
Name the state that issued your license every time you name the license. Say whether you practice independently. If you hold an independent license in a Counseling Compact member state and reside there, say you are eligible for the privilege to practice and name the states you already hold privileges in. If you hold a second state license, write both with their numbers. Say which populations and modalities you are trained in, and stop there.
Do not write "licensed counselor" with no state; it resolves nothing. Do not claim compact eligibility while you are accruing hours, because the compact excludes supervisees. Do not use "therapist", "counselor" and "clinician" interchangeably inside one letter. Do not describe a client, a session or a presenting problem, even anonymized. Do not leave the credential expiry off the closing paragraph.
Strong demand, narrow gate
